Excellent opportunity to provide feedback to MPEP writers

I think this forum will provide the patent community with an excellent opportunity to present ideas to the MPEP writers and others within the Patent Office who have rulemaking authority/responsibilities. It seems that when a comment is posted others in the community can vote it up or down, as well as discuss the pros and cons. This should allow for an airing of substantive matters while allowing the cream (so to speak) ...more »

Link to the current MPEP

Since the tool is designed to track comments directed to a specific section of the MPEP, provide a link to the relevant section from somewhere in the tool.

Great Opportunity to Train Prosecutors

I agree with Gene, and also see this as a potentially outstanding tool for training prosecutors how to handle certain challenges presented by current Office practice.

The MPEP, and beyond?

The MPEP is a collection of not only USPTO "procedures", but also relevant statues and rules. More importantly, via its selection and presentation of caselaw and guidance for examiners, the MPEP reflects USPTO "policy".

Given the relevance of that policy to MPEP content, can/should this forum be expanded to provide feedback to the USPTO on such policy?

Is there any future for this discussion forum?

Roughly 6 months ago, I asked for the timeline for opening up the remaining sections of the MPEP to this discussion tool, and have not yet received a response. Apparently, the USPTO has decided not to pursue this discussion forum. If that is untrue, would a moderator please provide a substantive answer the original question?

Fragment of MPEP suitable for comments?

This website is a great idea, and seems to provide a great avenue for clarity (and perhaps conciseness) to be added to the MPEP. Collaboration from the people who actually use the MPEP will result in better understanding by all parties of the correct practices, and ultimately streamline patent preparation and prosecution. However, I have a few quibbles: First, the UI on this website limits comments only to the 500 and ...more »
